Preparing the new SBA 8(a) application is NOT an easy task. Why? Because the forms, instructions and application are scattered across many websites. Some of the information is located on federal sites and some is located on commercial sites. It is not organized, so you need to be. Back in 2005, it took me weeks to complete my application on my own. In about a month I received an email back from the SBA stating I needed to supply one more form and a social disadvantage narrative. If you were to look for guidance on writing the social disadvantage narrative, you would be shocked. This important document has no clear guidelines or criteria to follow. And it stood between me and my goal of getting certified. I knew I needed help and there are companies ready to help me if I paid them a fee ranging from $1500 - $7,000. I could not and would not pay that, would you? I don't think so! Even more determined to succeed, I spent over 80 hours researching and preparing my own narrative. Within a week of emailing the narrative to the SBA, I received that glorious email reply stating my company was SBA 8(a) approved. Yeah...that was a milestone for my company, Design2Train.
